MESÉSKERT KINDERGARTEN (Archikon)

2014

Budapest

built

The building, which houses 16 kindergarten groups and a playhouse, was built as a conversion of a former kindergarten building with 8 groups, commissioned by the 13th district municipality of Budapest. Due to the size of the plot, it was only possible to accommodate such a large number of children in a multi-storey building, so the upper groups were placed on the first floor. The garden and playground on the roof provide additional space for them to move around. The compact and strict mass is given playfulness by the curved playgrounds, skylights and windows scattered on the facade that extend to the lower floors. The surrounding buildings tower like giants over the 3-storey building, so the appearance of the roof as a 5th facade plays an important role. The district's urban development concept was decisive in the installation of the kindergarten, which encourages the design of compact and economical buildings, so the building also obtained passive certification.
