SZTE DORMITORY

The University of Szeged wants to expand the dormitory of the Faculty of Medicine. The planned new building wings will provide 250 new places by completing the closed urban block.
Both new dormitory buildings have a central corridor layout, similar to the existing building. The central corridors are parallel to the street boundary, so some of the residential units are oriented towards the street, the other towards the back garden. The communal functions are located on the ground floor (study room, computer room, lounge). The rooms are typically double, with their own shower and sink. The design, similar to hotel rooms, allows the dormitory to be converted into a guest house during the summer.
The new building wings are typically covered with clinker tiles, the laying method of which clearly assumes its material, and does not try to imitate traditional brick cladding. The rhythmically alternating stacking method creates a braided facade image, which resolves the strict facade design resulting from the function.
